Class 1 Structural Fill Dirt - is a 1/4 inch minus material that is guaranteed to be non expansive. That means when it gets wet, that it will not expand and damage anything installed over it. For example: pavers, concrete, asphalt, garage, garden shed, shipping containers, etc.

Class 1 Structural Fill dirt is a great multiple use material. It works great behind and under retaining walls, under artificial turf, under new concrete or asphalt, under pavers and flagstone and much more.

Class I Structural Fill - Class 1 Structural Fill Dirt is the best material to use if you need to fill an area over 3 inches deep.

Class 1 Structural Fill - Overall the most versatile, best performing and least expensive material available. It is clay free. That means it's non-expansive. When it gets wet it doesn't get mucky and slimy. It dries out fast and will last a long time under, behind or around your building foundation, retaining wall, horse pens, stalls and paddocks, under poured concrete and asphalt pavement. We have many customers use it either as a base for driveway and parking areas or the driveway itself. The Class 6 Roadbases are probably better overall for that use.

You do not need to install landscaping fabric under compactable materials. Compactable materials compact to form a solid, flat surface, so weeds cannot get light and moisture to grow (germinate). Examples; any type of roadbase, (recycled asphalt, class 6 granite or recycled concrete), class 1 structural fill dirt, granite or river rock crusher fines. If you want to spend the time and money to install the fabric and pins, it doesn't hurt anything.

To Order the Correct Amount of Material

Measure the length and width of the area to be covered. If you don’t have a tape measure, walk the length and width of the area. Figure each full step as 2 1/2 feet. Get the total square footage of the area by multiplying the length by the width.

30 feet by 40 feet = 1200 square feet. 1 ton of Recycled Asphalt Roadbase covers 80 square feet 2 inches deep. 1200 divided by 80 = 15. You will need 15 tons of Recycled Asphalt to cover this area approximately 2 inches deep.
